  Individual CO2 Absorbent Canisters
In case of a possible escape from an submarine, every member of the crew has been provided with a canister of CO2 absorbent, fitted with an ori-nasal mask and mouthpiece and noseclip, the necessary oxygen content of the vessel’s air being maintained by a supply delivered automatically into the submarine’s compartments. If it became necessary to leave the vessel while submerged, the men discarded the canister and put on their escape apparatus.
